It was a different kind of day in Hoi An today. Never, in our wildest imagination, did we think we'd be organising a removalist, etc from overseas due to FLOODING. It felt kinda wrong being over here "holidaying" whilst everyone at home was doing what they could to help out. But talk about the planets aligning for us. Upon rising this morning waiting in our inbox was an email from the storage shed saying they did expect the sheds to get water in and if possible to get our stuff out. Many phone calls later and it was organised. We were lucky enough to be able to get a removalist. Our wonderful friend Nicole was able to get to the storage shed to pick up keys and have the lock cut off within the 20 minutes before the storage people had to leave the premises. Nicole's husband with a broken arm (and unable to work) was able to stay home with their little princess (thanks Scott). Which meant Nicole was also able to supervise the moving process from wo to go. And as luck would have it Dave's cousins, Rob and Amanda's, house was empty after just moving their gear out a week or so ago in order to get ready for rent so we were able to put our gear inside their home. So, we must say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to all of these people for without you we'd be coming home to not only no house but no belongings either.
On the other hand Hoi An isn't looking so bad to stay on ;) Whilst Dave stayed and manned the computer and phone Jas and I tested out the pushies and rode the 2 kms into town for a look. Yeah, right! We ended up getting a suit, vest, shirt made for Jas and for me a pair of jeans and a jacket. Plus both of us a pair of shoes. We'll pick up tomorrow and see just how good (or bad) they are. Some chopsticks, a tablerunner, two Vietnamese coffee pots and some coffee later and we still hadn't finished. All I wanted was a simple hair cut but ended up with a full facial cotton thread and OMFG did it hurt. My face is as smooth as a babies bum now :) Then whilst I had a haircut Jas had a massage. Gotta go, gotta go, really. We'd been gone a few hours by now.
Then it was family fun time on the bikes.
Jason was the leader of the pack.
And Jayden got doubled by Dave.
We rode about 3 km's, in the other direction, this time to the beach.
On the way home my bike broke, buckling the back wheel, so I had to push it, before being rescued by Dave.
Calling into the Red Dragon again for dinner on the way home Dave had another banana daiquiri to end a somewhat stressful day.
Sigh... I love Asia - I miss it! Can't wait to go back. No probs about the supervising job. I got the good end of the stick as Eva was not co-operating yesterday at all! So at least I got some peace and quiet for a few hours! LOL
ReplyDeleteI had suits made in Hoi An and they are really good - used them for work and they lasted a few years. Dad will only buy/get suits made when he goes to Thailand as he refues to pay the prices they charge here in Aus! Didn't get jeans made though so will be interested to hear how they turn out.
Oh and the Brisbane river didn't rise as high as expected (of course!) but I am going to drive down to the storage shed and see if there is any water down there and takes some pics :)
Me xx
