UZES - THURSDAY 14 OCTOBER 2010

Yesterday, we went kayaking from Collias to Pont du Gard. It was a gorgeous day and just beautiful cruising down the river.

Sofie insisted she could canoe/kayak but found it a bit different and difficult and ended up being tied onto the back of Dave and towed along. Jayden was like a king sitting in the front of Dave barking orders.

We took a couple of breaks along the way and stopped to take in the scenery before reaching the Pont du Gard. A most amazing ancient Roman aqueduct bridge. Truly a sight to see.

There was a slight communication breakdown for our pickup place. We swore she said 30 metres past the Pond du Gard but it was actually 30 minutes. So, we missed our pick up and Dave had to locate someone with a phone to call them. An Irish waitress at the brasserie was obliging and another paddle downstream we were picked up and taken back to the starting point.

Last night we were invited over to Angela's. Angela is the Property Manager for French Cottages. An English lady who also speaks fluent French. We had a fabulous night with lots of different wines, champagnes together with biscuits that were dipped in the champagne and liquers (apricot, chestnut, blackcurrent), foie gras, pickled onions, duck breast and chicory salad. Brian Stark, half owner of French Cottages also joined us. It was a really great night full of interesting conversation, fine wine and good food. What French life is all about. Needless to say we're a bit slow this morning.

Kayaking photos here.
